Exploitation? Entrepreneurship, Capitalism, and Making Money on Free Software

    • development
    • economics
    • software

This was timely. I had been thinking about this recently, since I use software primarily developed by a single company (WordPress/Autommatic, StatusNet/Inc., etc.), and I try to make them the best they can be. Classic economics don't work with developer ecosystems like this.

We now have HTML5 and CSS3. No browser supports every feature so it’s often necessary to include shims or use detection techniques to ensure cross-browser compatibility.

    Attracting Developers to Your API

    • api
    • developer
    • development

An API can be an extremely powerful tool, allowing you to expand the functionality of your product without having to do the development yourself. To achieve this, however, you need to get developers using your API. If you’re Google, that’s not an issue, but if you’re a young startup, it can present a real challenge.
